Following the coastal road extends their time spent driving but Jasper doesn’t mind. He enjoys listening to Alice talking and singing along with the radio, watching out the window as they pass through town after town.
They don’t stop unless absolutely necessary, avoiding human interaction after the almost-slip in the movie theater. It’s stops just for gas and then finally a longer stretch when Alice demands Jasper take the wheel and learn how to drive.
Which he does, with a few stops and starts along the way until he can get the hang of it, and then Alice settles back to read to him aloud from one the new books she’d bought.
Until - “Oh, here!” - and she directs him toward the outskirts of a little coastal town of Connecticut before they reach Rhode Island.
She’s murmuring the directions to him, until he has the car hidden and parked away from any main roads.
“Alice - what - ?” He’s laughing. “Are we about to commit grand larceny?”

"So it's best that we wear clothes at least sometimes. Also I forgot: I don't really like the sand getting everywhere so I guess we have to move to somewhere without sand. 'Cause if I'm gonna be naked most of the time, I don't want to also be gritty, you know?"

Humans and sand just ruin everything.
“Where else can we live naked then?“
He’s very invested in the naked part.

"I don't think you want to miss those, my love."
no subject
Well, damn.
“ - Suppose we’ll just leave naked beach living for an every now and then kind of thing.”

"You're perfect," she sighs, crossing her ankles together at his back, pressing more kisses against his cheeks.

He loves that he can be silly with her like this and it all seems like some dream too. Like he’s actually sitting in some forest somewhere, petrifying.
But, he isn’t.
“I love you.”

Her ankles uncross at his back and she'll give him a few seconds to put her down before she starts trying to wriggle out of his arms.
"I wanna just stand in the ocean for a minute."
no subject
“Stand away,” he says with a laugh when the water reaches higher on her than it does on him.
He splashes her with a wave before he ducks down to wash the sand from his hair and scrub it from his shoulders.

There's tiny fish here, giving them a wide berth, but still--they get tangled up in the waves, riding them out. She smiles before popping part of her head out of the water, everything below her eyes still submerged.
She's just watching him, watching him scrub the sand from his shoulders. The sun has peeked out from behind the stormy clouds--stormier now, guaranteeing still no human visitors to the secluded area--and he shines in the light. Illuminated--even his hair glows gold.

“Nothing you haven’t already seen before, darlin’.”
Though, he does offer her a wink and a show when he rings the water from his hair.

“Still a pretty picture—oh I should’ve grabbed my camera.”
She sighs, wading further to the shore, until the water is at her thighs and she stretches (also putting on a little show). “Guess I’ll just have to remember it next time, to snap a shot of you in the water.”
no subject
His voice a husky whisper in her ear as he’s suddenly behind her.
“I want a few of you too.”
He kisses her shoulder as he wraps his arms around her and drags her back into the water with him.

If he thinks this is going to stop her wiggling, he’s very wrong. Only this time, she’s wiggling against him.
no subject
He laughs at her flailing limbs, her wiggling in all the right spots - in his opinion.
He doesn’t drag her too far out, only to where the water hits his chin, though surely well over her head if she were to stand.
“You can’t stand there, lookin’ like that, my beautiful mate, and expect me not to come and get you.”
no subject
"Of course I expect it," Alice breathes against his lips. "I don't show off for just anyone, after all."
no subject
It’s silly, he knows.
His arms tighten around her waist as he kisses her back slowly, dragging out each slide of their lips together.
no subject
"Hey," she whispers, against his lips, relishing in the way each words brushes them together again. "I'm yours."
no subject
History just gives him pause, every now and then. A momentary what if. As if she might tire of him one day. The worry there, and then gone.
“And I’m yours,” he murmurs before he captures her lips in another kiss.

Forever. Eternity. Them, together--it makes her bloom with happiness again.
